We have come to a point in our society where our forefathers never intended us to go. An age where Christianity is disrespected above measure, and the people seem to “love to have it so.” Freedom of speech is offered to everyone, save Christians, and everything is tolerated, save Christianity and biblical views. Should one say that the religion of Islam is a religion of hate, he is marked as an intolerant person whose very presence in our country is a disgrace. Should one speak out against abortion, he is marked as one who hates women or has been brainwashed by conservative extremist, and one who is uneducated. Dare not one say something against homosexuality, for he who does may end up jailed. However, if you would like to say something against Christianity, the Bible, Jesus, etc. then feel free, for we live in a country which has freedom of speech. At the Emmy Awards this very thing was shown to be true. In her acceptance speech Kathy Griffin, a comedian and reality TV star said, “A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.” She continued by saying, “Suck it, Jesus. This [referring to the Emmy] is my god now!” She reminds us of Herod who “sat upon his throne and made an oration,” during which people began to “shout” saying, “It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.” We then read, “immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the spirit” (Ac 12:21-23). While she was not smitten and eaten by worms during her speech, unless she “repent and be converted” (Ac 3:19), she will find herself, eventually, in the place where “their worm dieth not” (Matt 9:44). Can you imagine one saying these things in reference to Muhammad? What if she had said them in reference to Buddha, or some other man-made god? Just as Immus and Dog the Bounty Hunter, her career would be over. But, instead, she said these things against Jesus and received an applause. Yes, as an American she has a right to freedom of speech, but so do I, and I say we shout God’s praise and glory without end.
