The church of Christ is the church about which we read in the Bible, built by Jesus (Matt 16:18), and established in Acts 2 on the first Pentecost after his resurrection. The teaching followed by members of the church of Christ does not come from any creed books or manuals, but is that which is written in the Bible. Its members bear the name Christian only, as did those about whom we read in the Bible. We trust that when we do what they did, in all forms, we can be what they were, Christians, who are members of the Lord's Body.
The terms of salvation taught by the church of Christ are the terms taught in the Bible. For the Bible teaches that man must beleive Jesus is the Son of God (Mrk 16:16), repent of his past sins (Acts 17:30), confess faith in Christ as the Son of God, thus recognizing His authority (Romans 10:10; Matt 28:18), and be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16; 1 Peter 3:21), at which time the one who obeys is added to the Lord's body (Gal 3:27; Acts 2:41, 47), which is the church (Eph 1:22, 23). All of which must be followed by a life of fidelity to the cause of Christ (1 Cor 15:58).
